Beach Club

#106-94A Allen Joslin’s Beach Club opened in 1931 to serve as the clubhouse for the new 18-hole golf course. The second-floor meeting room often doubled as a dance floor, and according to Lucy Storter, “The Naples High class of 1939, all five strong, had a wonderful Senior Prom. This, my first dance, was held at the Beach Club.” In 1946, Henry B. Watkins Sr., W.D. McCabe of Columbus, Ohio and several other partners purchased the assets of the Naples Improvement Corporation, the Naples Development Company, and the Naples Tropical Realty Company, which included the Naples Hotel, and formed a new Naples Company. At the suggestion of Watkins, an avid golfer, the partners announced plans to renovate both the Naples Hotel and the newly acquired Beach Club.
