"70% of the Unidentified Photos in Naples Historical Society’s Archival Display Get Catalogued at Council of Longtime Friends Spring Event"

Naples, Fla. (May 28, 2014) – Watkins, Van Arsdale, Harris and Keene; these are just a few of Naples’ most familiar family names who came to the aid of Naples Historical Society during the organization’s Spring Council of Longtime Friends event on Friday, May 16, 2014. The important semi-annual social mixer encourages residents with connections to Naples history (aka “old timers”) to reconnect with friends and help the Society identify photographs in its archives. The event is also part of the Society’s ongoing Archival Development Project, which concluded its observance of National History Month with a collection drive on Saturday, May 24th.

“History can’t be meaningful and relevant unless it can be identified,” said Society President and CEO Elaine Reed. “We are overjoyed that guests of the Council event took a walk down memory lane through our collection of donated pictures and were able to identify people and places in 70 percent of the photos shown to attendees that evening."

Among those in attendance was 96-year old Merle Harris, who has remained involved with the Society since 1965. Three other fellow Naples matriarchs, Mary Watkins, Betty Van Arsdale and Mary (Prince Evans) Lipstate, also attended the semi-annual event and have been instrumental resources to the Society for decades as well.
