"New Season Begins at Naples Historical Society"
Full Moon Tours and Garden Side Chickee Chats Announced

Naples, FL (December 13, 2013) - Naples Historical Society has announced the new line up of programs that begin the 2014 season.

New this year, four "Full Moon" tours are planned for Historic Palm Cottage. This event will feature a docent-guided tour of Historic Palm Cottage in the evening hours, ending just in time to see the Norris Gardens by the light of the full moon.

President and CEO of Naples Historical Society, Elaine Reed added "what an incredible way for visitors to enjoy Naples oldest house and appreciate the night sky! It may be hard to imagine, but before electricity came to Naples in the 1920's, the full moon was not only beautiful but essential. This tour brings history to life in a unique way".

"Full Moon" tours begin at 8:00 p.m. on: Thursday, January 16th, Friday, February 14th, Saturday March 15th, and Tuesday, April 15th. Tour size is limited and reservations are required. Non-members may make their reservations on the Society's website at www.napleshistoricalsociety.org or by calling 1-800-979-3370. The cost is $10 per person and children under 10 are free. Society Members are free and may make their reservations by calling 239-261-8164. Garden Side Chickee Chats, the Society's speaker series are always extremely popular. The chats are one hour in length and are free for members and $15 for non-members. The schedule is as follows:

  • Friday, January 24, 2014, author Todd Turrell hosts a book signing for "Naples Waterfront: Changes in Time". The chat will focus on the incredible coastal transformation of the Naples area.
  • Friday, February 21, 2014, Bayshore CAPA presents a short "History of Bluegrass" with a musical performance from Russ Morrison and his band. Bayshore CAPA President Chick Heithaus will give an overview of the Bayshore Cultural and Performing Arts Center, and Dick Spottswood will talk about the history of bluegrass music.
  • Friday, March 28, 2014 features ABC 7's Chief Meteorologist John Patrick discussing the "History of Hurricanes in Southwest Florida". He will review major weather events, and what goes on behind the scenes within a television station when bad weather is brewing.

Historic Palm Cottage and The Norris Gardens are located at 137 12th Avenue South, at Gulfshore Boulevard, one block east of the Naples Pier in the Naples Historic District.

Naples Historical Society receives no government funding and relies on membership dues and donations to accomplish their mission. Historic Palm Cottage was built in 1895 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
