Pupils at Palm CottageTM
TO: Collier County 4th and 5th Grade History Teachers
FROM: Elaine Reed, Executive Director for the Naples Historical Society
SUBJECT: Children's Educational Program: Pupils at Palm CottageTM
Did you know that the Naples Historical Society, a local 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, has an
educational program called Pupils at Palm CottageTM that is geared to 4th and 5th grade elementary
school students? The Naples Historical Society received a restricted grant for transportation
reimbursement, and we are able to offer a reimbursement* to interested schools for standard yellow
bus usage.
We would like to extend an invitation to public and private Collier County School history teachers to make a
reservation with the Naples Historical Society to schedule time to bring their class to historic Palm
Cottage and its garden complement, The Norris Gardens at Palm Cottage.
Built in 1895, Palm Cottage is the Naples oldest house, and The Gardens depict the landscape history
in Naples over the last 100 years. Exposure to the history of Naples, its heritage and the legendary
inhabitants make for an excellent supplement to a history class. Naples history comes alive in this
historic house and gardens! Naples Historical Society Docents** spearhead this educational program.
They are former public school elementary teachers...and they understand FCAT requirements.
Call us for details and program availability. As this program offering is very
limited, we recommend that you do not hesitate to make a reservation now! We look forward to hearing from you and helping your students better understand Naples history and heritage.
